How to find a REALTOR®?
Did you know that according to Tennessee Realtors (Formerly the Tennessee Association of REALTORS®) there are 26,000 REALTOR® members in Tennessee?
So how do you find the REALTOR® you want to work with?
How do you find a REALTOR® that will work in your best interest?
A REALTOR® that stands apart from the competition?
When you’re making the largest financial decision of your life, to buy or sell a home, there are some questions you need to consider when searching for a REALTOR®!
Some questions that come to the top of mind are:
1. Are they a full time or part time realtor?
Would you want a part-time doctor, or a part-time dentist, or a part-time accountant? Why should you settle for part-time when needing guidance with your real estate needs? You need someone who is fully devoted to their profession and serving you!
2. Do they work with buyers, sellers, or both?
Some agents choose to work only with buyers, some chose to focus more on listings, a large majority work with both! Nonetheless, an important question to ask!
3. What will their services cost?
This is a very important conversation to have on the front end of your relationship with your REALTOR®. Ask questions, know what you’re getting into and what you’re responsible for.
5. How long have they been in business?
Experience matters! Again, when it matters most, you want someone to know the answers to your questions who has the experience to guide you in the right direction.
Let me guess, your search will begin with Google? Or maybe your search will begin by browsing on Zillow inquiring about homes? Maybe you’re wondering why you need a REALTOR®?
It is SO important for you to have someone working in your best interest, whether you are buying or selling a home! Someone to guide you through each step of the complex process of today’s Nashville real estate market. You’ll need an advocate helping you navigate multiple offers, someone with negotiation skills, and someone to explain the terms of the contract! You’ll also need someone with a list of vendors such as mortgage lenders, home inspectors, and title companies and someone to answer your questions throughout each step of the process!
Many people work with a REALTOR® that has been referred to them by a friend or family member and that’s a great place to start! It’s also important to do your homework on that referral. Does the realtor have an online presence?
Are there positive reviews online? Do they have social media accounts where you can get to know them?
Once you’ve found someone to work with and you’re ready to reach out and contact them, there are a few more questions to consider! Are they willing to take time with you and answer your questions?
Will you be working with that agent throughout the process or are they a part of a team?
You can also ask them for a list of the services they will provide to you, as well as what will be expected of you as their client!
